Abstract

The data provided by psychiatric genetic research may have broad clinical utility in the therapeutic approach to families. Psychogenetic evaluations may improve diagnostic and prognostic capabilities, aid in pharmacotherapeutic decisions, and contribute to marital and family planning in instances of familial psychosis. This paper discusses clinical issues pertinent to psychogenetics in order to demonstrate the adjunctive value of psychiatric genetic assessments in clinical practice. 1982 American Orthopsychiatric Association
