Abstract
5′-AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), comprised of a catalytic α-subunit and non-catalytic β- and γ-subunits, plays a pivotal role in the regulation of cellular energy homeostasis. 1The PRKAA1, PRKAA2, PRKAB1, PRKAB2, PRKAG1, PRKAG2 and PRKAG3 genes encode the seven possible subunits of a functional mammalian AMPK heterotrimer. We derived over 70% of the coding sequence of each equine AMPK subunit gene and determined their chromosomal locations by radiation hybrid mapping and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).
