Abstract

Reactions of Na₂M(CO)₅ (M = Cr in THE and W in 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME)) with various alkyl halides provide RM(CO)₅^- (R = CH₃, C₂H₅, NCCH₂ C₆H₅CH₂) which have been isolated as bis(triphenylphosphine)iminium (PPN⁺) salts. Spectral, chemical, and other properties of these new substances are discussed. Also, a new method for the synthesis of Na₂W(CO)₅ by the sodium amalgam reduction of W(CO)₆ in DME is reported and discussed with respect to other known preparations of this substance.
