Abstract

Reactions of Na2M(CO)5 (M = Cr in THE and W in 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME)) with various alkyl halides provide RM(CO)5- (R = CH3, C2H5, NCCH2 C6H5CH2) which have been isolated as bis(triphenylphosphine)iminium (PPN+) salts. Spectral, chemical, and other properties of these new substances are discussed. Also, a new method for the synthesis of Na2W(CO)5 by the sodium amalgam reduction of W(CO)6 in DME is reported and discussed with respect to other known preparations of this substance.
