Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

The Independent Turbine Testing Facility (ITTF) located at the St. Anthony Falls Hydraulic Laboratory, U.S.A. is described. Basically a hydraulic loop, the facility has been designed and built to test the energy extraction and flow performance of model turbines. This facility has recently undergone extensive upgrading and the resultant capabilities and characteristics, and usefulness to the hydroelectric power industry are described. Data acquisition and control facilities and instrumentation calibration and measurement uncertainty are included in the description. As well as turbines, the facility can also be used to test new draft tube designs, or investigate cavitation and other problems such as inflow swirl. (J.M.M.)
