Abstract

In this paper, experimental and computer-simulation results are presented for the input current harmonics and the power factor of operation associated with small horsepower, transistor inverters. Single-phase as well as three-phase inputs are considered for the PWM inverter drives. In all cases, the distortion in the input current is found to be quite high. An expression is developed to evaluate the size and the cost of the dc link inductance in terms of the volt-amperes of an equivalent two-winding transformer.
