Abstract
Poly drug use is well established pattern of drug misuse. Alternatives to heroin have been used by addicts for a long time. Abuse potential of Buprenorphine and other drugs have been seen in India since 1990. Screening of urine samples for analysis if drugs of abuse has become a basic tool in the diagnosis and treatment of drug addicts. Present study of one year was aimed to study the changing pattern in drug addiction from laboratory perspective. Results showed that there was significant rise in abuse of Buprenorphine followed by Benzodiazepines and Dextropropoxyphene as compared to previous data from our centre. The study has supported clinical reports showing increasing trend in Buprenorphine dependence along with rise in use of other synthetic compounds.
