Abstract
Ways in which a terrestrial disturbance affects small streams in a catchment and the response of the streams to the new situation are discussed, on the bases of work at the Coweeta catchment, North Carolina, on the effects of logging. Direct effects of logging on streams and the longer-term stream response are described in detail. Implications for forest management strategies are considered. (D.W.T.)
