N2 - We consider the vacuum expectation value 〈0|Fμv2|0〉, where Fμv is the electromagnetic field strength tensor, and use the point splitting technique to regularize the calculation. Then 〈0|Fμv2|0〉 turns out to vanish in one-loop approximation. In higher orders the vacuum expectation value appears to be divergent but calculable in term s of the β-function within the regularization scheme specified.
