Abstract

A patient is described with C2 deficiency, Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteremia sinusitis and recurrent otitis media. Several other family members had histories of sinopulmonary disease, however, C2 deficiency did not segregate with sinopulmonary infections in other family members. In addition to the C2 deficiency, abnormal function of the alternative pathway of complement was noted in the patient. Alternative pathway dysfunction may play the primary role in this patient's susceptibility to infection.
