Abstract
Femtosecond laser electronic excitation tagging (FLEET) is demonstrated at a MHz rate for the first time for the time-resolved velocimetry of supersonic flows. Previous applications of FLEET have utilized laser sources with the capability for measurements at repetition rates up to 1 kHz with commercially available systems. A custom burst-mode Nd:glass laser generated a burst of 500 pulses with 0.18 millijoules per pulse at 1 MHz rate with the pulse duration of 220 fs. The pulse energy has been shown to be sufficient for producing FLEET signal at a discrete point in supersonic nitrogen flows for velocity measurements.
