Abstract

Brain-computer interface (BCI) is a device for direct brain and external apparatus interaction with the assistance of brain signals. Via the interpretation of brain electrical activity, typically assessed by methods such as electroencephalography (EEG). BCIs allow the individual to control computers, prostheses, and other devices completely through brain signals. In the early days, BCIs were developed to help patients with motor impairments, but later on, the technology of BCIs has advanced to become a flexible device with applications in neurorehabilitation, assistive communication, mental health monitoring, gaming, and education. Due to the integration of artificial intelligence and the innovation of wearable devices, BCIs are now more accessible, effective, and versatile in their application. In this chapter, we present recent advances in BCI technology, discuss practical uses, present challenges, and discuss potential future uses in BCI.
