Abstract
A biphasic theory for mechanical interactions of cells with the ECM is presented in this study. This theory is used in conjunction with experimental results from FPCM assays to determine the cell traction parameter which is an objective measure of cell-fibril interaction. The anisotropic biphase theory is seen to offer a new level of understanding, predicting orientation of the network for inhomogeneous cases.
