Abstract

From a complete X-ray crystallographic study, 5-chlorobenzfuroxan is shown to have the 5-chlorobenzfurazan 1-oxide structure (Va), in which the chlorine substituent is para to the N-oxide nitrogen atom. The crystal structure of 5-bromobenzfuroxan is isomorphous, and the molecular structure is assumed to be analogous, that is 5-bromobenzfurazan 1-oxide (Vb).
