Abstract

This paper reviews the current industrial practice for automated sheet metal fabrication. The current empirical method to calculate the bend allowance parameter is examined, and its weaknesses are explained. A more accurate method of calculating this parameter using a power-law strain-hardening material model is shown, and its results are compared with the current method. Implementation issues for using the more accurate models for real time control of the flexibly automated sheet metal fabrication cell are explored.
