Abstract
Recent evidence has associated otitis media (OM) with lesions in the cochlea and peripheral vestibular system. Histopathologic data has demonstrated that otitis media results over time in cochlear and vestibular damage, including loss of hair cells (cochlear and vestibular) and atrophy of the stria vascularis. In this chapter, we will discuss the potential relationship between otitis media and these sequelae, highlighting the most frequent clinical symptoms, abnormal physical examination findings, results of vestibular tests, and the importance of prevention and early treatment.
