Abstract

Computer simulation of robotic systems is a valuable tool in robot design, off-line programming and advanced supervisory system development. Acquired knowledge of the environment is the basis for decision in intelligent systems. Adequate representation of physical entities is essential in simulation. Described is an evolving software package which incorporates a polygon-based geometric modelling system and its application in some of these areas. Current abilities of the 'MnCELL' package allow simulation of several robots with their auxiliary equipment performing assembly and process operations. A primary feature is real-time animation of robot tasks including transfer of workpieces as they are processed.
