Abstract
Climate change adaptation and mitigation is an emerging issue for animal agriculture research and extension. A multi-regional team of extension professionals is developing a web-based educational course and website for extension agents and educators using the latest research and tools. The objectives of the course and companion website are: 1) to build a foundation of knowledge; 2) facilitate learning across U.S. regions; and 3) provide a shorter time from research to extension to application. The educational lessons are webbased using the Moodle platform and include introductory materials followed by species and region specific information on: 1) climate impacts on animal agriculture; 2) risk management and adaptation; 3) climate science and trends; 4) contributions and solutions to greenhouse gas emissions; and 5) science communication during controversy. Each course lesson includes recorded lectures, readings, videos, interactive participation, certification testing, downloadable extension materials, links to further reading, and a complete bibliography. The complementary website is structured to be a reference guide for educators offering content review, educator resources, and links to supplemental online materials.
