Abstract

Classification schemes for the rivers of Southern Africa are reviewed. Additional features which might be useful in developing a more comprehensive schemes are suggested. The area considered is that to the south of the River Limpopo. Physical, chemical and biological approaches to river classification in the region are reviewed, with a view to the future needs of the human population. (D.W.T.)
