Abstract
This chapter examines feminist and women activists’ media and their roles in the ecology of feminist social movements, particularly in the United States. Offering first a brief historical overview, and then emphasizing the 21st-century context, it addresses how, why, and with what consequences feminists launch and operate their own media—from print magazines and newspapers, to educational comic books and documentaries, to cable television programs and podcasts, to online-only globally accessible news sites and social media.
