Abstract
Airflow patterns in flat grain storages are predicted with a two-dimensional finite element model. Plots of the isotraverse times are used for comparison. Where grain is allowed to peak at an angle of 22 degrees or greater, placing one duct in the center of the storage provides at least as good an airflow distribution as when two or three ducts are used. When the effects of fine material concentration in the center of the pile are considered, one duct in the center of the storage will provide the most airflow to this region. For level filled storages, using a duct spacing equal to the grain depth provides good airflow distribution.
