Abstract
Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs) are known as a paradigm for targeted therapy and inhibition of oncogenic driver mutations. The molecular understanding of this malignancy has led to the development of drugs for its treatment, which are focused on targeting KIT inhibition/pathway. However, the treatment of GISTs refractory to these drugs remains an unmet clinical need, particularly among the advanced/metastatic setting of the disease, when it is most frequently seen. Therapeutic strategies targeting KIT, KIT downstream pathways or other novel treatments are being actively sought, and are of extreme importance for the futures of these patients.
