Abstract

Vector processors are larger and faster than currently on-line hardware. In addition, execution efficiency is improved by the ordering of the code (software). Hardware improvements between the VAX 11/750 and the Cyber 205 are described. Software improvements due to rewriting a finite element code are described. A brief discussion of how to and when to vectorize is included.
