title = "Activity and distribution coefficients from measurements for volatile organic compounds distributed between air, water, and 1-octanol",
abstract = "The method involving preparation of a headspace of known composition, which is allowed to flow over the liquid phase, was presented. This was adapted from a method used to calibrate the adsorption by fibers in solid phase micro extraction. The approach to equilibrium was monitored by UV-visible spectroscopy of the liquid phase. Preliminary fugacities for toluene in air and water under ambient conditions showed interesting behavior. The fugacity was non-linear with respect to composition and a linear fit of the data gave a Henry's constant in agreement with published data. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 7th World Congress of Chemical Engineering (Glasgow, Scotland 7/10-14/2005).",
