Abstract
Issues of software design for a low cost system for stereo vision are presented with considerations about the precision in the resulting three dimensional data that it is possible to get from stereo pairs of pictures. Examined pictures are line drawings of toy blocks, this subject allowing to focus the attention on the presented problem. Types of errors that influence the final result are discussed. Methods exploiting the geometric constraints between corresponding points on two line drawings are described; finally some parameters are given to estimate the found three dimensional data. A conceptual framework for stereo vision is provided and the accuracy of the models of three dimensional objects constructed from stereo images is studied in detail.
