Abstract
The usual proliferative response induced by the addition of phytohemagglutinin (PHA) to normal bovine lymphocytes cultured in medium containing bovine fetal serum (BFS) was depressed by the addition of bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) virus. The inhibitory effect appears to be related to the viability of the virus. When heat killed or ultraviolet irradiated virus was used, depression did not occur.
