Abstract

A synthesized electrooptic directional-coupler modulator at 1.3 μm with low switching voltage was presented.The different couplings were realized by varying the etch depth between the waveguides employing a reactive ion etching (RIE) process. The switching voltage of the actual modulator was approximately 1.8 volts which was slightly higher than the design value.
