Abstract

This work presents a synoptic treatment for the 10 species of Poecilanthe (P. amazonica, P. effusa, P. falcata, P. grandiflora, P. hostmannii, P. itapuana, P. ovalifolia, P. parviflora, P. subcordata and P. ulei), including an identification key, nomenclatural revision and their updated geographic distribution data. In addition, species delimitation is briefly discussed. Poecilanthe grandiflora and P. falcata have been revised and are considered to be distinct species; P. parviflora var. floribunda is considered to be a synonym of the typical variety; and four lectotypes are designated.
