A Review of Personalised Gamified Applications

Abstract

Human factors play a critical role in asset management, impacting the effectiveness and efficiency of asset management processes. It encompasses the psychological, social, and organizational aspects that influence how individuals interact with assets, systems, and processes in asset management. In the transportation sector, human error contributes significantly to crashes including the use of alcohol, failure to use a seat belt, and risky or aggressive driving. Gamification features serve to inform the driver about their driving characteristics (such as hard acceleration, hard braking, and speeding) in an engaging format. To be effective, gamification features in an eco-driving application must support the driver’s attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control toward eco-driving. Current trends in gamified applications suggest the need for selecting gamification elements based on the personality type and interests of the user, known as “personalized gamification.” This work presents a review of existing research on designing personalized gamification interfaces. In the field of asset management, personalized gamification may make eco-drive programs, or training programs, more effective and engaging.
