A quick estimator for taxonomic surveys

Abstract

The problem considered in this paper is to use the results of an initial taxonomic survey to estimate the expected number of new species that would be observed in a second survey. A quick estimator that is easy to calculate is proposed. Some results are presented suggesting that the estimator performs well in some situations.
