Abstract

A particle identification system is described which is based on a fast multiplication of signals proportional to dE/dx and E from a silicon surface barrier counter telescope. This system is compared with others already in use which generate a similar product for particle identification. The performance of the system for identification of 3He and α-particles in the 10 to 40 MeV energy region is shown as an illustration of the capability of the system.
