Abstract

Diode-pumped amplification of a pulsed fiber source is used to extend the duration of traditional burst-mode laser systems past 30 ms with sufficient pulse energy for nonlinear frequency conversion and linear spectroscopic approaches. Pulse repetition rates from 10- 100 kHz are possible, thereby increasing the temporal dynamic range of high-speed measurements (<33 to >5000 Hz) by at least a factor of two over previously published pulseburst systems. This range includes high frequency components investigated using traditional burst-mode diagnostics (>1000 Hz), while extending the temporal bandwidth to allow examination of low frequency components. The laser footprint is reduced to 2 ft × 3 ft thereby improving system mobility and accessibility. Performance is demonstrated in a lifted CH4-air diffusion flame using planar laser-induced fluorescence of formaldehyde and in a cold mixing jet using acetone PLIF mixture fraction imaging and PIV.
