Abstract

A 7T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) RF Head Coil metamaterial element has been investigated. The element has high uniform current density, operating at 298 MHz has a three-section Stepped Impedance Resonant (SIR) structure. The high impedance section is designed with a Composite Right/Left handed (CRLH) microstrip line topology for continuous and uniform current distribution. The measurement of the proposed design shows the element resonant at 298 MHz. This is a fast wave structure and should radiate very well and this is confirmed by simulations.
