Abstract
To better understand the unique needs and opportunities available to childcare center directors operating in Northwest Minnesota, the Northwest Minnesota Foundation contracted with UMN Extension to undertake interviews with six childcare center directors in April of 2026. In learning about their challenges and opportunities for growth, the author provides supplemental background information on the issues of:
• Non-profit vs. private business structuring of childcare centers,
• The potential value and process of becoming an intergenerational care provider, and
• The potential value and alignment that certification within the Parent Aware program offers to providers and families
