The Minnesota Cover Crop Guide

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The Minnesota Office for Soil Health (MOSH) collaborated with Wenck Associates and the Freshwater Society to create the MOSH Minnesota Cover Crop Guide. The Guide brings together Minnesota-based information in one resource, building from a baseline of existing national cover crop recommendations from the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program (SARE) (Clark, 2007), and regional research and recommendations compiled by the Midwest Cover Crop Council (http://mccc.msu.edu/) . The Guide provides research-based technical information on seeding rates, planter settings, and termination guidelines, as well as pointing to narrative examples of farmer-led cover crop trials when available. To avoid duplicating existing resources, focused on cover crop data from Minnesota and adjoining states to build recommendations.
The results of the project are available at https://mosh.umn.edu/management/minnesota-cover-crop-research. The site will be maintained by the Minnesota Office for Soil Health.
