Research interests

My work has focused on critical issues in urban education, including the schooling experiences of immigrant youth and students of color. The consistent threads that cut across my research program have been 1) meeting the teaching and learning needs of marginalized youth, including immigrants and students of color; 2) examining the relationships between educational institutions and social and cultural contexts; and 3) employing interdisciplinary frameworks and diverse methodologies to the study of education.
