PHIL MILLER is an experienced business leader, educator and coach. He currently serves as Assistant Dean for MBA & MS Programs at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. There he is responsible for leading the teams responsible for the entire student lifecycle (recruitment/admissions, student placement/life & career development/placement) for more than 1400 MBA and Master of Science students.
Phil previously led the Carlson Consulting Enterprise, an innovative MBA program delivering real world experience to students by solving “real world” problems for consulting clients. He has also taught undergraduate, MBA and executive education classes on management and critical thinking, winning an undergraduate faculty of the year honor along the way. He is passionate about his students’ personal and professional development.
His clients have included: 3M, Allianz, Andersen Windows, Best Buy, Cargill, Carlson, Chevron, Cummins, Deluxe, General Mills, Goodwill MN, Lifetime Fitness, Marvin Windows, Mayo Clinic, McKesson, Minneapolis Public Schools, State of Minnesota, Northwest Airlines, Polaris, The Saint Paul Foundation, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, United Health Group, University of Minnesota as well as multiple start-ups.
Prior to joining the Carlson School, Phil worked at 3M where his responsibilities included managing a global business, leading an internal corporate venturing opportunity and managing 3M’s corporate Strategic Business Development group. Phil also worked for Ernst & Young’s management consulting practice where his clients ranged from Fortune 10 global businesses to start-ups across multiple industries. His experience included enterprise level strategy, process improvement and technology issues.
In each role Phil has been responsible for developing and implementing analytical tools and frameworks to assist in clear, fact based decision making as well as professional and career development for MBA and undergraduates.
An MBA graduate of the Carlson School of Management with concentrations in Strategy, Marketing and Operations; Phil also holds an MA in History from the University of Oklahoma and a BA in History from Rice University.
