Author of Sensational: The Hidden History of America's "Girl Stunt Reporters (HarperCollins); Sparrow (Reaktion Books); Chrysalis: Maria Sibylla Merian and the Secrets of Metamorphosis (Harcourt); and Tinkering with Eden: A Natural History of Exotics in America (W.W. Norton). Essays and articles have appeared in Smithsonian, Orion, Sierra, River Teeth, and Best American Science and Nature Writing anthologies, among other places.
