I am currently studying the use of goat browsing to control invasive plants.  Our project has three objectives: 1) quantify the short-term and long-term effects of goat browsing on the invasive shrub common buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica), 2) evaluate the effect of goat browsing on plant community composition in deciduous forests in Minnesota, and 3) determine whether co-grazing waterfowl with goats can be used to reduce the risk of the goats picking up a parasitic nematode, meningeal worm, by reducing the abundance of the parasite's intermediate hosts (slugs and snails).
