[W]e need more books like The Betrayal of the Humanities: The University during the Third Reich. In a time of intensifying anti-Semitism, the volume edited by Levinson and Ericksen ought to be read by every single academic who stands in the tradition of the universities in Germany and surrounding countries.

The article focuses on the University of Salzburg’s, Austria, efforts to confront its Nazi past. Topics including withdrawing honorary awards from individuals with Nazi affiliations; critically assessing its history; establishing initiatives to commemorate victims of the Holocaust; university's acknowledgment of guilt for past oversights; and debates surrounding the assessment of individuals like Professor Josef Dillersberger within the context of cultural anti-Semitism and Nazi ideology.
