Description
Two academic libraries will present their work towards transforming selection and deselection criteria from their collection policies into measurable metrics for evaluating electronic resource additions, renewals, and cancellations. Using a clearly defined rubric establishes a baseline of expectations, ensuring that decisions are supported by data that may be understood by all stakeholders. With ever increasing prices and stagnant collections budgets, it is more important than ever to be consistent and transparent in how we invest our funding. This poster will outline our development timeline, processes, and present examples of our rubrics. We will highlight how we defined and categorized our metrics, how the data is sourced and gathered, and how challenges in balancing objective v. subjective information influenced our decisions. We will discuss pain points, possible solutions, and next steps as we fine tune our methodology.
Attendees will walk away with ideas for how to begin transforming their own collection policies into an assessment tool that supports and defends future electronic resource-related decisions.
